hello!
my name is danielle james and i am a theatre-maker, performer, and academic from ireland currently living in london.
my work is interested in a wide range of themes and issues, but is mostly about freedom and liberation, lensed by my experiences as a trans woman. it aspires to iconoclasm and social upheaval.
my work has been shortlisted for the Bill Cashmore Award (people watching people…, 2025), the Theatre503 International Playwriting Prize (Schizogenesis, 2025), and long-listed for the Bruntwood Playwriting Prize (Three Boys, 2025).
people have called me a “powerful presence” and that my work is “exquisitely written”, “bold and passionate”, and “triumphant” (which is very nice of them).
