Danielle James is a performer, academic, and writer, working across stage and screen.

She was a finalist for the Women’s Prize for Playwriting in 2025 for THREE BOYS, as well as being recognised by the Bruntwood Prize, The Theatre503 International Prize (for Schizogenesis), and The Bill Cashmore Award (for people watching people…).

She is currently under commission by Theatre503 and The Royal Opera House.

She is an alumna of The Royal Court Writer’s Group (where she is currently developing new work) and the Next Stage 2025 Cohort as part of Dublin Theatre Festival. She is currently a Writer in Residence at Theatre503 as part of the 503Five.

RTE named her as one of ten ‘Exciting Irish Names to Watch in Culture’ in 2026

Her work uses the impossible and the unimaginable to interrupt the everyday. She writes about faith, God, birds, sex, violence, war, human beings, suffering, joy, art galleries, murderesses.

She holds an MA in Theatre and Performance Studies from Queen Mary, University of London.
